Education Services

For more than 20 years Chugach has provided operations, training, management, and maintenance services for the U.S. Department of Labor Job Corps Program at the Alaska Job Corps Center in Palmer. The center is the first of its kind in Alaska, focusing on training Alaska youth. It provides full educational services for 250 Alaskans, including 24 single parents, in a residential setting. The center serves the largest geographic area with the most diverse population of any Job Corps center in the nation. It has been the second-highest-ranked Job Corps center of the 22 centers located across the western United States.

Chugach Education Services, Inc., (CESI) specializes in education services and training, ranging from health care to culinary arts. Since our first contract in 1993 with the Palmer Alaska Job Corps, CESI has provided our customers with high quality services in an ethical and cost effective way. We operate several different award winning centers across the country, receiving the first Job Corps “Center for Environmental Excellence” designation for our sustainability program at the Alaska Job Corps Center. Specialtes include • Academic training - literacy and numeracy skills, General Education Degree (GED) and/or High School Diploma attainment, college preparation and health education. • Career Technical Skills training - certifications in the following industries: business and computer technology, construction, culinary and hospitality services; health occupations, (certified nurse assistant, pharmacy technician, medical assistant), water/wastewater operation, warehouse/logistics, security/protective services, auto body repair and paint. • Support Services - outreach, eligibility determination and admissions services; health and wellness care; employability and independent living skills training; counseling services; transportation; career preparation/transition services; food service operation; safety and security services; accounting and procurement; and facilities and property management of Job Corps Centers.


Chugach Education Services, Inc., is a wholly owned subsidiary of parent corporation Chugach Alaska Corporation, a regional Alaska Native Corporation (ANC) formed under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971.

Awards & Recognitions

• The Alaska Job Corps Center received the first Job Corps “Center for Environmental Excellence” designation for implementing a sustainability program on center that involves all staff and students. • In 2013 the Palmer Alaska Chamber of Commerce and the City of Palmer nominated the Alaska Job Corps Center to receive the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman's annual Good Neighbor Award for two decades spent "training the youth of Alaska and instilling in them a spirit of service." • The Alaska Job Core Center ranked #1 in the country for “Graduate Average Wage” ranking and was named the “Most Improved Center” in the San Francisco DOL Region. Job Corps Centers are graded monthly in 11 different areas and ranked accordingly. The Center received an overall rating of 103.0% during the Report Period of December 1, 2011, through November 30, 2012.
